The Maine Association of Group Care Providers believes that a professionally trained staff delivers quality care to youth. The Association actively
collaborates with state agencies, provider organizations and associations committed to quality services for youth in out-of-home care. The Professional Development committee maintains its primary focus in helping member agencies meet the
training and professional development needs of its Youth Workers. The Committee’s work is also driven by the need for professional recognition of Youth Care Workers both at the agency level as well as state level through credentialing
and standards of competency in the field of Child and Youth Care Practice.

The Professional Development Committee:
- Is committed is developing training resources for the professional development needs of Child and Youth Care Workers within our member agencies.
- Advocates to other state associations and the State of Maine for the recognition of Youth Care Practice as a profession.
The committee continues to develop and make available relevant training and educational opportunities to child and youth care practitioners.
- Promotes clarity, flexibility and consistency in state training mandates on behalf of member agencies.
- Sponsors annual Child and Youth Care Practitioner’s Conferences.
- Maintains professional working collaborative with the University of Maine at Augusta (http://www.uma.edu/)in developing and promoting the 30-credit Child and Youth Care Practitioner Certificate
Program.
- Maintains an effective linkage with the Association of Child and Youth Care Practice (www.acycp.org) This is a national organization promoting professional recognition of Youth Care Workers.
MAGCP is a member agency.
- Has established and implements a professional credential mechanism for Child and Youth Care Workers recognized by member agencies of MAGCP.
