What we believe about children & youth:
Ø All children & youth are entitled to a safe childhood;
Ø All children & youth have strengths, capabilities, & inherent self-worth, and should be treated with dignity and respect;
Ø Children & youth have little voice in our society. They need well-informed and responsible adults to look out for their best interests;
Ø Children & youth who reside in out-of-home settings benefit from understanding how their relationships with members of their biological family and substitute families have an impact on their growth, development, and ability to achieve their personal goals; and
Ø Children & youth in our care benefit from a holistic approach to out-of-home care.
What we believe about ourselves and how we do our work:
Ø Providing opportunities for personal growth & professional development is a high priority;
Ø Collaborating & sharing information allows us to improve the quality of services to our diverse populations;
Ø We strive to create a climate of trust, openness, and respect in our meetings and in our work;
Ø We engage in unified efforts to improve services, and organize ourselves around common causes to enhance our effectiveness;
Ø We make decisions by consensus, and will not undertake projects or tasks, which we cannot unite behind;
Ø The care and treatment of children & youth is enhanced when the out-of-home setting resembles a family setting as closely as possible;
Ø We believe in the idea of shared responsibility and to that extent possible, recipients of our services should be active participants in planning and implementation of those services; and
Ø The idea of shared responsibility applies to our membership and to the children & youth in our care.
